Cultures of Online Gaming

On the internet there have appeared a new class of cultures. These cultures exist in virtual world created by gaming companies and populated by millions of people around the world.

It's a growing trend. Many people are giving up their nightly television and log into virtual worlds to interact in ways they never could before. For some it's another form of entertainment, for others its a way to interact with people where it was difficult before.

In today's world people are separated by commercial entertainment systems. Nearly all public space has disappeared and been replace by corporate ventures. One must pay to go somewhere, be it buy coffee, food, or tickets to and event. None of these types of places are conducive to human interaction. They are designed to give stimulation to the customer, very infrequently between customers.

Online Games are designed to promote human interaction between players. To the extent that many people have a problem with the term game. To many in these worlds it is much more than a game. It is another world, with different rules and social structures.
