In my view of things, sustainable energy is essential to the continued existence of human life on the planet.
There are many ways to generate electricity. we will explore here some of the cheaper and more automous forms of power generation. There isn't any one solution that will replace our dependance on cheap oil for power generation. However by combining them we may find a sustainable solution.
This includes Solar, Wind, Hydro and anything that can be gathered without polluting the environment with waste materials, such as carbon or spent nuclear material.
Hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen as a fuel, combined with oxygen and produces energy and steam.
Energy efficiency in usage is equally important as the means of production.
This doesn't mean that everything needs to be energy efficient first, but that electronic devices are efficient enough for their intended use.
Fuel cells are power generation systems that utilize a fuel, usually hydrogen. Hydrogen fuel cells combine hydrogen with oxygen generating steam as a byproduct or exhaust. They are not the answer to all our energy needs but are a major component in the system of sustainable power generation. More importantly they allow energy production to be decentralized and located on site.
Potentially the steam produced by the fuel cell can also be used to generate electricity as well as be used for hot water and heating.

Solar power has the best potential for sustainable power generation, based on the fact that the Sun provides more power then we could ever dream of usuing. Solar techonology however still has a long way to do before it is truely a sustainable technology. mainly research needs to be directed toward non toxic construction meathods and increasing solar cell effiecency

Ideally these systems will be build into a cohesive system that can be installed in any home or vehicle to generate power. We will no longer depend on centralized corporations to power our basic needs. The power grid can be decentralized to maximize efficiency and minimize failures, much as the internet is today.
Many believe that free energy, overunity or any number of terms applied to devices that produce more energy than they consume to be an impossibility. However many also believe in made up sky gods, the sanctity of the market or that consumption will heal the environment. The only thing that will truly prove if such technologies are possible, are experimentation. unfortunately for free energy, if it were proven to be possible it would destroy the market system. The market cannot allow such technologies to exist as they cannot be centralized once put into production. Free energy would allow for production outside of the market.
